Gandhara literally meaning land of fragrance was one of the most famous Buddhist civilizations, it existed in now northwest Pakistan and northern Afghanistan, After a conversation with Buddhism Ashoka, played a greater part in spreading Buddhism in the region by building Buddhist Monasteries & Stupas one of these is at Dharmarajika stupa in Taxila where Ashoka buried several relics of Buddha here however Greater Gandhara spread as far as Kabul, Bamyan, Peshawar, Dir, Bajur, Hill of Swat valley, Plains of Punjab, and south in Sindh towards Mohenjo-Daro city of Indus Valley civilization    Buddhism has played a major role in the history of Pakistan — the land of which over time has been part of predominantly Buddhist empires such as the Indo-Greek Kingdom, the Kushan Empire, the Maurya Empire of Ashoka, the Pala Empire.

  • Museum
    The Museum at the entrance to the site is the best place to start. It gives an overview of the history of the city, as well as showcasing some of the wonderful finds, including many Buddha statues. Return to Islamabad / Overnight stay in a hotel
  • Sirkap
    Sirkap is close to the museum, so is easily accessible on foot. This site is the second city of ancient Taxila (Taxila II on the maps) and is presently known as Sirkap after the name of a wicked character from a folk legend, who lived and died here.
  • Jandial
    Just down the hill from both Jaulian and Mohra Moradu is Jandial, a sanctuary that looks remarkably similar to a Greek temple.
  • Mohra Moradu
    Mohra Moradu is, like Jaulian, a Buddhist complex consisting of a stupa and a monastery. It was excavated in 1915-16.
  • Jaulian
    The first site we visited was Jaulian, a Buddhist stupa with a vihara (or monastery) and a university on a hill 300 feet above the surrounding countryside. They date to the Kushan Era (between the 1st and 5th centuries C.E.)
  • Bhamala, Khanpur
    Bhamala Stupa is a ruined Buddhist stupa and National Heritage Site near Haripur, Pakistan that dates to the 2nd century CE. Bhamala stupa is part of the larger Bhamala Buddhist Complex.

Islamabad – Swabi – Peshawar

  • Breakfast at 08:00 am
  • Check out and drive toward Swabi
  • Reach Swabi
  • A short detour from Swabi Interchange & drive towards Hund Museum
  • Later on, drive towards Chota Lahor
  • Visit the archeological site of Warruki Lahor / Chota Lahor
  • After Chota Lahore, we will head towards Shahbaz Garhi to see The Historic Stones of Ashoka ‘The Famous Rock Eddicts of Ashoka’.
  • The rock edicts were added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List on 30 January 2004 in the Cultural category
  • Later on, head towards Peshawar
  • Return to hotel in Peshawar and check-in
  • Overnight stay at a hotel in Peshawar

  • Half-day Peshawar Museum Tour which is notable for its collection of Buddhist artwork dating from the ancient Gandhara Empire.

  • Takht-i-Bahi "Throne of the water spring, commonly mispronounced as Takht-i-Bhai , is an Indo-Parthianarchaeological site of ancient Buddhist monastery in MardanKhyber-PakhtunkhwaPakistan. The site is considered among the most imposing relics of Buddhism in all of Gandhara, and has been "exceptionally well-preserved."
